Llewellyn Gulch is located on the west side of the lake at about mile 62, roughly halfway between the mouths of the San Juan and Escalante rivers. The gulch heads straight north for almost a mile and then does a 90 turn left. In its upper reaches beyond the lake, there is a route up the north wall that gives access to the Hole-in-the-Rock Road.
At the lakeΓÇÖs end, a monstrous rockfall occurred in January 1988, half obliterating the beach at the end of the lake. This is an area of particularly high use during the summer. The gulch was named for pioneer Llewellyn Harris.
